Job DescriptionThe MAARS Residential Advisor is responsible to develop, coordinate and maintain a program within the community, which strives to provide a positive intellectual, emotional and social living environment for students.
The RA is selected on the basis of displaying sensitivity to and interest in people, neutrality, respect for dignity and worth of the individual, open-mindedness on issues, degree of empathy, ability to handle autonomy, make decisions and his/her success within an academic community.

Essential Functions

  • Employee will demonstrate TSTC Core values of Excellence, Accountability, Service and Integrity with internal and external stakeholders, customers, students and members of the community
  • Provide support, encouragement and leadership to students participating in the program
  • Assist Activity Coordinator in facilitating afternoon and weekend activities
  • Perform routine dorm inspections for cleanliness and safety
  • Supervise and evaluate assigned students actions
  • If on shift, accompany students on field trips and provide supervision
  • Educate residents on the housing policies and procedures
  • Help to facilitate an environment that allows students to meet their academic and program goals
  • Building relationships with the residents in the program
  • Role modeling positive attitudes and behavior
  • Reports to the MAAR Activity Coordinator and the Center for Science and Math Education Coordinator
  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills

  • Must have college hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Background in migrant programs preferred
  • Must live in the dorms for which he/she will be responsible
  • This job description covers a position in which the percentage of time spent on the essential functions will vary based on the workload and will ultimately be determined by the supervisor.
