Job DescriptionThe Maintenance Worker I performs semi-skilled work operations related to one or more of the following , heating and air conditioning carpentry, painting, household appliances and mechanical building equipment. Generally requires detailed instruction from supervisor, with some minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Functions

  • Employee will demonstrate TSTC Core values of Excellence, Accountability, Service and Integrity with internal and external stakeholders, customers, students and members of the community.
  • Perform routine maintenance and servicing of equipment such as cleaning condenser coils, replacing or cleaning filters, checking oil levels, adding or changing oil, lubricating, and draining water from air tanks.
  • Perform such plumbing operations as cutting, threading and joining pipe, replacing gaskets and washers, unstopping drains and replacing valves following detailed instructions.
  • Perform such operations as cutting lumber to specified lengths, removing partitions, sheet rock, ceiling and other materials to prepare for repairs, replacing window glass, repairing screen doors and performing rough carpentry being guided by detailed instructions.
  • Prepare surfaces by scraping, sanding, caulking, sealing, masking or covering areas preparatory to painting.
  • Install and/or repair internal and external walls such as sheet rock, paneling, trim and siding being guided by trade practice, blueprints and verbal instruction.
  • Assemble and move scaffolding.
  • Cut and lay block, brick, tile, and pipe.
  • Cut weeds and grass, trim trees and shrubs.
  • Disassemble motors or equipment, clean and reassemble parts, and clean and lubricate equipment.
  • Occasionally set traps or spreads poison baits for rodents.
  • Load and unload trucks.
  • Assemble, install, repair, and maintain furniture.
  • Perform such typical work operation as framing partitions, doors and windows; installing and repairing subflooring, finishing flooring, linoleum and floor tiles
  • May perform other routine inspection and maintenance work of the same level of difficulty described herein in assisting various types of craftsmen.
  • Observe safety requirements and wears protective equipment as required.
  • Perform routine maintenance operations under detailed instructions.
  • Regularly operates construction equipment, machinery, forklifts and wheeled vehicles.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience/Knowledge/Skills

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Experience in one or more areas of building construction or maintenance.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Exertive: Significant exertion on a daily basis. Awkward postures and work positions. Working at heights or confined spaces. Sustained activities require strength (e.g. using tools). Frequent moderate lifting (30-60 lbs).
  • Unpleasant Exposure Minor Hazard: Moderate exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant but not hazardous odors. Occasional exposure to risk controlled by safety precautions.
