Job Description

The Senior Manager, Federal and State Tax will be responsible for managing all aspects of the U.S. income tax compliance. This position will manage a co-sourcing engagement with an outside firm to prepare a complex US federal income tax return in addition to working with the internal ASC 740 team to support the quarterly and annual SEC reporting for income taxes. You will manage the state corporate income and franchise tax compliance while collaborating with the outside firm preparing the returns and the ASC 740 team on related state tax matters. In addition, you will manage the IRS and state income and franchise tax audits. As part of this role, you will have related responsibilities around estimated tax payments and federal excise taxes.

What You Will Do:

  • Manage the engagement between Ecolab tax and service teams from outside firms working on the federal and state income tax return compliance and related projects to ensure timely reporting of accurate returns.
  • Direct the work of an outside firm hosting the tax depreciation software by ensuring proper data is provided from the Ecolab fixed asset accounting team and by reviewing the output.
  • Manage two senior associates assisting with data collection, state tax controversy and other federal and state related tasks.
  • Collaborating with accounting, treasury and supply chain finance teams to ensure an accurate understanding of tax sensitive accounting for reserves and similar topics.
  • Lead the IRS examination by coordinating with various subject matter experts in tax and outside of tax as required to supply information to the exam team.
  • Provide guidance on state income and franchise tax matters and manage outside firms providing support on an as needed basis for state tax audits
  • Team with the tax planning, ASC 740, transfer price and outside firms to ensure appropriate elections and statements are timely filed.
  • Facilitate the data collection and related reporting for employee related benefits, use of the corporate plane.
  • Support the overall internal control standards

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 8 years of experience in Federal and State Tax Compliance
  • Immigration sponsorship not available for this role

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with similar role in comparable company or with an accounting firm preparing returns for clients
  • Embraces and manages change, as well as an effective communicator to management and staff in team and one-on-one meetings, driving continuous improvement and standardization
  • Proven track record of working closely with various groups within a corporate structure including accounting, business units, treasury and others in tax
  • People leader with effective training and motivation skills
  • Proficient with accounting methods, managing a depreciation process and familiar with state filing and addback provisions
  • Understanding of how tax planning is incorporated into the return process, how to defend on audit and collaborate with others in tax to achieve departmental goals
  • Background in domestic planning around federal credits and accounting methods
